Evangelism

So I laid down in bed tonight to the sound of the bass-line of some U2 song and thought to myself, “Well, guess this is the night.” I contemplated for about 5 minutes whether I was really going to have the courage to go over there and do it, but decided that the Lord wasn’t gonna let me sleep if I didn’t. I grabbed the bottle of wine from the counter and started praying over that thing, and boy if the power of the Holy Spirit didn’t flow through me into it then I don’t know what happened. I prayed that it would be a trojan horse, and that it would be a seed planted that would lead to their salvation.

So I set out, and discovered they were sitting just out of earshot from their fence, and out of view. I yelled a couple of times but they couldn’t hear me over the music, and I didn’t feel right just barging into their yard uninvited. I prayed for a few minutes, waited a little longer, and was about to give up when I decided to go around to the other side of the house and noticed it allowed me to walk right up to where they were sitting. The wife had gone inside, so I introduced myself to the husband and told them that I had heard the music and just wanted to wish them a good evening, and bless them with a bottle of wine. He looked kinda surprised for a moment and said, “Oh you didn’t have to do that… Do you want a beer?” I thanked him, but said I had to be up early… And that was that.

I’m excited to see what God does next.

So I was down at the canal worshipping the Lord over my lunch hour, when all of a sudden I see a girl come around the corner, smile at me real big, and then sit down next to me on the bench. It was a little strange, because most people just ignore me while I’m down there, so to have someone sit down literally next to me was out of the ordinary. I thought to myself, “God must be up to something.” She sat there smoking a cigarette as I played through a few worship songs, and then I spoke up and asked her name. “Cynthia,” she said, “and it was so weird. I was walking down the stairs to the canal, and all of a sudden my cd player got really quiet, and wouldn’t turn up. Then I heard you playing and you were really loud, and you sounded like my brother who just died two months ago.”

We chit-chatted for a little bit, and I began talking to her about God, why I’m out there worshipping Him every day, and how I didn’t believe it was a coincidence that her cd player stopped working all of a sudden, but that it was because God wants her to know He loves her. She said she wasn’t religious and didn’t believe in God, but felt that there was something out there greater than herself. I said I agreed, and that His name was Jesus, then I began to tell her all that Jesus has done for me. She asked me, “So Jesus has answered you every time you called?” I said yes, then she said, “He’s never answered me.” I could see at this point when she said this that she was tormented by demons, and I was getting quite uncomfortable and didn’t want to have a show-down right there, but instead invited her to come back and listen as I play there every day.

Then I told her I’d play one more song before I had to go. She said, “Play something true.” So I said, “Ok, but you’re not going to like it.” “That’s ok, just play something true.” So I busted out a rousing “Jesus Blood Never Fails Me” :) Afterwards, she said, “Wow… I can see just by the way you sing that you really believe that. Do you really believe that?” I said yes, and that I had to go, but before I go I wanted to pray for her real quick and asked her permission. She said ok, so I put my hand on her shoulder and prayed that she would experience the love of Jesus.

God is after that girl, so pray for her that she might have other God encounters and come to know the Lord.
